The Dreaded Q4 Is Nearing. Hold Onto Your Hats. Strap In. Let’s Get You Started.

Many of you eager beavers will have Q4 locked and ready.

You’ve got a deck. There’s a media plan. There’s probably a Gantt chart floating around. And someone has definitely muttered the word ‘Christmas’ at least once, despite the UK still enjoying an unusually blissful summer.

But here’s the thing nobody puts in the deck: Q4 is never bloody ending.

It’s three months of shifting priorities, late budgets, changing consumer behaviour, clients finding money they didn’t know they had, and everyone suddenly discovering that November is, in fact, quite busy.

Which means there’s still room to book more in. The question is: what do you do with it?

The opportunity.

During November and December 2025, UK consumers spent a record £26.9bn online, according to Adobe, the biggest online Christmas shopping period ever recorded. More than 60% of that spend happened on mobile, while Cyber Weekend alone generated around £3.8bn in online sales.

This isn’t just a few big shopping days. It’s a huge period of consumer attention, research, discovery and decision-making.

And importantly, it doesn’t all start on Black Friday. 48% of UK consumers said they had bought most of their Christmas presents before December even began.

Which means that by the time the big red SALE banners start appearing everywhere, plenty of consumers have already been researching, comparing, discovering and deciding what they want.

The opportunity for advertisers is to show up before the moment peaks, not just when everyone else piles in.

Because premium inventory gets harder to secure as peak periods approach, competition pushes prices up, and retail moments get noisier. By the time everyone is scrambling for the same audiences in November, “we’ll figure it out later” becomes a surprisingly expensive strategy.

The bigger problem, though, isn’t a lack of inventory. It’s knowing where the remaining budget should actually go.

There’s an enormous amount of data available to help answer that question. Search behaviour. Content consumption. Commerce signals. Attention data. Audience insights. However, more data doesn’t necessarily create more confidence.

Oftentimes it just creates more… things.

This is where signals become useful

Here at @curate, when it comes to specific seasonal events, we look at four lenses:

Search. Content. Commerce. Attention.

Together, they help us understand what’s happening before the media plan necessarily catches up, because consumers don’t suddenly wake up on Black Friday and think: “Right. Better start shopping.” Their research starts earlier. Discovery happens earlier. Intent builds over time.

That early signal is exactly the point. By the time everyone else is talking about Christmas, the consumer has already been thinking about it for weeks.

And that gives advertisers a choice: Wait for the noise. Or use the signals to get there first.

It’s not so much about buying more; it’s about being more deliberate about where, when and why you buy ->

  • Use the signals already happening to understand where demand is building.

  • Use curation to turn those signals into smarter media choices.

  • And make sure you can prove what happened afterwards.

Because showing up matters. And showing up in the right moments, in the right environments, with a clear reason why? That’s where things get interesting.

So, consider this your Q4 warning.

You probably don’t need another 47-slide strategy deck; you just need to look at what’s still moving.

  • Where are the gaps?

  • Where is consumer intent already building?

  • Which moments are worth getting ahead of?

  • And where could a more curated approach make the budget work harder?

Because Q4 is noisy enough without making the media plan noisy too.

So, call me the Ghost of Christmas Future. I’ve been called many things in my time, but a ghost is a new one.

Let’s make sure you’re ready for Q4.
