6 Months In: The Roller Coaster Ride of Starting a New Business

Writer's picture: Rhys DennyRhys Denny

As we power through the six-month mark of launching @curate, it's healthy to take some time and reflect on the journey to date.

Launching a new business, with the backdrop of an unpredictable world that is still finding its new normal, might seem a little masochistic to some. Daft? Maybe. Nerve-wracking? Absolutely!

Exciting? Definitely.

Starting a company from scratch is hard work; it takes resilience, passion, and a solid support network to keep you going through the rough and the smooth, but most importantly, you must enjoy it, and embrace the journey you are going on. In that respect, it becomes a little addictive and as I go on this journey for the second time, I'm starting to realise I'm a glutton for punishment (as well as pies)!

The Power of Collaboration.

One of the most exciting things is seeing the desire for collaboration across the many conversations we are having. Curation is one of the hot topics in the industry, and there is a genuine desire to see how it can be beneficial to all parties who participate in this space. Very quickly we have evolved our offering and are working on solutions beneficial across the breadth of the ecosystem.

These collaborations mean we are entering into some incredibly exciting partnerships for such a new business; from the largest SSP’ to clients using our AiRK platform to power their campaign activation.

We are also pretty excited to be launching new offerings, such as our Premium Publisher offering (watch this space) which will act as a solution to empower the publisher community to utlise the power of curation.

The Infamous, TMI Video Series

It's also been a lot of fun launching our TMI Video series, where we get to know the people behind the businesses who make up our wonderfully complex industry. We ‘curated’ TMI (excuse the pun) to bring together some of the smartest people to tell us their common industry challenges, biggest fears and wildest dreams.

It has honestly been such a great project to work on, catching up with familiar faces and meeting new ones. Make sure youlike, follow and  subscribe (come on, I can promote my own video series, surely!?). We’ve got a new episode out soon!

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

There are, of course, challenges in building a new busines. A number of which are beyond our control. A myriad of global issues have impacted us all in our daily lives, and continue to impact our industry and of course we have our own market macro factors in the recent Google announcement.

The underlying reason for the cookie’s deprecation remains the same: consumers are pushing for a safer, more privacy-focused future that empowers rather than hinders their journey. Even with the option to opting out of third-party cookie tracking, the significance of third-party cookies will diminish and curation’s impact on the industry will grow and become even more significant.

The exciting part is, we are just getting started and scratching the surface of what Curation can do for the market. We are currently working on some developments that we plan on launching over the coming quarters which we believe will be the next step in the evolution of how curation can add even further value, and positively impact the ecosystem.
